Located on the Sturgeon River, St. Albert has grown to become one of the largest cities in the area. Whether you are a resident or just a visitor, anyone can appreciate the scenic landscapes and welcoming atmosphere that are a part of this city. No matter what you are looking for, there is something for everyone in St. Albert.
St. Albert was first founded in 1861 as a Christian settlement. Not only was the area rich in natural resources such as lumber, but it was also a prime location in relation to First Nations peoples and Fort Edmonton. By the early twentieth century, St. Albert had rapidly grown thanks to the Canadian Northern Railway, eventually becoming an official town in 1904 and a city in 1977. Now, the city has a population of just over 60,000 people. The city has been named the “Best City to Live in Canada” by MoneySense in 2014, and the “Best Place to Raise a Family” by Today’s Parent in 2011.
The Enjoy Centre is one of the most popular destinations in the area. This facility first started as a greenhouse, but now has a spa, restaurants, a café, deli, Whole Foods, and more. Whether you are shopping for groceries or you simply want to relax, there is nothing like the Enjoy Centre.
Stop by the St. Albert Farmers’ Market to support your community. For over 30 years this farmers’ market has been providing the community with fresh produce and truly one-of-a-kind fares. In fact, this event has grown to become Western Canada’s largest outdoor farmers’ market. With over 250 vendors, live music, and tons of food trucks, the whole family will enjoy this event.
