At St. Albert Honda, we’d proud to serve the Edmonton area, which is just a short drive from our location. Edmonton is a sunny Canadian city known for its festivals and warm community, and its location between farmland and the resources of the north has earned the city the nickname “Gateway to the North.” There’s no place quite like Edmonton, AB.
Edmonton was officially made a city in 1904, and it has since grown to a population of over 930,000 people. As the capital of Alberta, the city is a cultural and economic centre. Historically, the area was a settlement during the Middle Prehistoric Era, but Europeans didn’t arrive until 1795. With the Hudson Bay Company, North West Company, and Fort Edmonton, the city quickly became a centre for the fur trade. Thanks to the success of agriculture and Edmonton’s location on the verge of the northern wilderness, it has since become an important spot for bush pilots, farmers, importers, exporters, and more.
Things to Do
Odds are that there’s a festival going on somewhere in Edmonton no matter when you visit. You can check out the Edmonton Oktoberfest in late September, music festivals, cultural events, and more. TapRoot has a list of the 75+ festivals in the summer, perfect for families, friends, and anyone else you might like to bring.
Sports lovers should check out the Edmonton Eskimos, the local CFL team, or the Edmonton Oilers, an NHL team. The Commonwealth Stadium (home to the Eskimos) holds a whopping 60,000 people, while the brand new Rogers Place, home to the Oilers, is also a fun place for exciting displays on the ice.
Whether you’re planning a visit to Edmonton or you’re a lifelong resident, there’s truly something for everyone in the Gateway to the North. Edmonton has an important place in Canadian culture, especially in Alberta, and we couldn’t be happier to serve the area.
