How to use The Honda Maintenance Minder
You have two teams helping you maintain your Honda! St. Alberta Honda and your car’s Maintenance Minder. This smart device monitors a lot of variables to let you know when your car needs attention. Keep in mind that the Minder doesn’t track the oil level in your car, so check it regularly.
The Minder uses codes to indicate when something needs servicing or replacing. For example, in the image above, an illuminated orange wrench shows code A. This means the engine oil needs replacing. Sub-code 3 says the transmission fluid and transfer fluid needs replacing.
You will have received a sheet decoding the letters and numbers for you. If you need a new one, just ask at our Service desk.
Here are the primary Honda Maintenance Minder codes and messages:
- Oil life 15% – service is due soon. Make an appointment with us for an oil change.
- Oil life 5% – service is due now. Your car’s oil life is very low. Make an appointment in the today or tomorrow!
- Oil life 0% – service is past due. A mileage readout how far overdue you are your car is will be visible. You must bring your car in now to avoid damaging the engine.
Main symbols:
- A – It’s time to replace the engine oil
- B – Now it’s time for new oil and a filter, along with an inspection of some systems and components.
Sub-codes:
- 1 – Rotate all tires and ensure they are in good condition and at the right pressure
- 2 – Replace air cleaner element, inspect drive belt, and replace dust and pollen filters
- 3 – Transmission fluid and transfer fluid need replacing (if equipped).
- 4 – Time for new spark plugs and a timing belt (if equipped). The water pump and valve clearance will be inspected, too
- 5 – Replace engine coolant.
- 6 – Replace rear differential fluid (if equipped).
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the Honda oil life indicator?
The oil life indicator is accurate. It measures oil life by collecting information on miles driven, temperature variations, and other things. A lot of short rides will reduce oil life. Why? On short trips, engine oil can’t reach its proper operating temperature . This can lead to water inside the crankcase and oil can be diluted by gasoline. Longer journeys let an engine reach its ideal operating temperature. The hot oil will lubricate an engine properly and moisture is removed. Don’t forget to reset the indicator after each oil change.
How much does St. Albert Honda charge for a transmission fluid change?
A transmission fluid change cost varies according to your model of Honda. The actual cost will depend on the model and age of your vehicle. Call our Service Advisors at 587-801-2040 for a quote.
How long does a Honda transmission last?
A Honda transmission can last upwards of 250,000 km. If you follow the Maintenance Minder and service reminders, it could last longer.
How often do Honda's need maintenance?
Each Honda model is different and has its own maintenance schedule. You can find this in your Maintenance Minder documents (or ask us for a copy). You can see maintenance reminders and alerts in your Maintenance Minder.
Is the Honda Maintenance Plan worth it?
Honda offers two options, an Extended Warranty program, and Honda Advantage. Advantage covers the service and replacement of wearable parts. It has three levels: Advantage, Advantage Service, and Advantage Service Pro. We recommend extended warranties and Honda Advantage, for two reasons. First, peace of mind, and it’s hard to put a price on that. Second, Hondas are one of the most reliable vehicles you can buy. Owners pay less for maintenance compared to other makes. But the added protection helps take care of additional or unexpected costs.
